I can RUN!

I-can-run2-e1334445137445-764x1024

I have just realised I can RUN!.

When I was in the US last year, I wasn’t able to make it to the top of the Great Sand Dunes because of my lack of fitness. That was a pivotal moment for me. I decided then and there that I would not let my fitness stop me from experiencing the things I wanted and loved to do. Although I swam  a kilometre nearly every day, I decided to get serious about honouring my body and becoming fit.

I joined the gym, love my Zumba and Spin classes and have gently started to do weight training.

I wanted to continue with my exercise whilst we were away for a couple of months… so I purchased a pair of  running shoes -(which were a bit of a challenge to find the right pair due to the fact that the width of my foot was far more suited to being a flipper – perhaps that’s why I was a swimmer! )… and thought I would try running.

I had never run before. How do I run I asked myself…and I asked the very kind man at the specialist running shoe store. He smiled and said that there were lots of people who didn’t know how to run. Quite an amazing thougth really…. that I didn’t know how to run!!!

He told me to do 3 things.
1. Take a brig breath in and out and Think TALL (we both laughed because I am extremely short.) and focus on firming and lengthening my core.
2. Lean forward
3. ..and step.

That’s it!!!! …and now within a week i am running 7km a day !!!! 🙂

About the Author: Julie
I am a Journeywoman. I live my life as an explorer. An adventurer. An Observer. An Artist. There is no differentiation between how I live my life and the art that is an expression of it. It is through my experience adventuring the unknown, that I learn more about myself. My aim through this connection is to live where my expression is fully in alignment with the essence of who I am. “In the field of Fine-Art Photography, Julie stands apart from others with the way she sees the world and expresses her connection within it. Julie Stephenson’s photographs are sublime. Her work is an expression of her deep connection; and a gift to the world.”
