Antarctica New Perspectives – …..Relationship

Silent Change 2Quietly….. over time…. silent change….

Looking at the relationships between elements can for me bring dynamism to a medium which is in literally 2 dimensions.

In your own photography, why not have a play with placing images together and see what narrative/emotion/movement/feeling develops within you, as a whole new perspective is created as a result of juxtaposing two or more ways of originally seeing.

I have found that such richness and expansion of new experience is a consequence of just playing with and exploring what I see and feel…and the result can be quite unexpected and rich with new ways of seeing the world. Sometimes it just doesn’t work. Sometimes elements just don’t go together…. but sometimes they really do support each other to create something which is interesting, intriguing, exciting and opens new ways of thinking… They are the gems.. They expand me… They are the ones which make my life rich in my experience of my life.

I have been playing in the past week with some images and putting them together in my new perspective of Antarctica. Some work more than others…and in each of the ones I have posted here something new has been revealed to me … purely through the relationship of the elements within in them when they are placed together…and somehow that relationship speaks more when they are together than when the individual images stand alone.

About the Author: Julie
I am a Journeywoman. I live my life as an explorer. An adventurer. An Observer. An Artist. There is no differentiation between how I live my life and the art that is an expression of it. It is through my experience adventuring the unknown, that I learn more about myself. My aim through this connection is to live where my expression is fully in alignment with the essence of who I am. “In the field of Fine-Art Photography, Julie stands apart from others with the way she sees the world and expresses her connection within it. Julie Stephenson’s photographs are sublime. Her work is an expression of her deep connection; and a gift to the world.”

You have an amazing life, Julie! Sharing it with others is such a gift. I lost track of you for a while . Now I am not sure where you are living or if you are still travelling .
I too have travelled round the world and then around the verandah of Australia, to Indonesia and lastly Cebu in 2013. Finding a way to continue the pilgrimage of life
is a constant challenge. You have found a way through deep inner consciousness. As violence and injustices gather momentum we need people like you to remind
us of the inner journey . Your photos reflect the created world in all its grandeur and beauty. Thank you Helen

Thank you so much Helen for your kind words about how I approach my life. It is a privilege to be able to share with others, and I sincerely thank you for being open to see and hear me. 🙂

𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭 | 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 Luxury Handwoven Blankets 🌏Stories from life & global adventures 🧩Woven into unique collector pieces Explore ⬇️
  • So many of you have shared that your pieces seem boring after you’ve spent hours with your heart and soul weaving them.

I have some ideas. Tip ONE to stop you from repeating making projects you don’t really love.

Try this -
Recall a place you’ve been that’s moved you. Remember the colours. Start there!

Keep watching and spread the world to come to my space to learn how to look at your weaving in a whole new way!
  • Underwhelmed with your finished piece that has taken you sooooo long to weave?

You’ve grasped basic weaving techniques, and you’re stuck making the same old things - without the ‘feels’!

Come along and glean some insights into making your time weaving worthwhile; by weaving pieces that shift from being just ‘nice’ fabric; to something very special.
  • Theres a saying about looking for a needle… but this time in the loom box! {tip} I suspect it won’t be found there! Hehe

A needle however is a very necessary accompaniment to a loom.

Who would have thought there was so much sewing in weaving? Hemstitching is a thing!! AND absolutely imperative!
Now you know! Let others know as well!
  • Tips and techniques are the starting point to make sound handwoven pieces, but after that- it’s up to you to spend all those hours weaving something that just doesn’t fill in the time. You will never truly be happy with that.

Come follow along to glean some insights into making pieces that are meaningful to you and bring a deeper sense of accomplishment alongside pieces that you actually love.
  • It’s warping day. On a previous reel I explained what a warp was. Today in my studio I need to tension warp threads to wind the warp onto the rear beam.

I can’t be at both ends at the same time, so being a rather practical person, I came up with a plan! Perfect solution! Doesn’t save me going to the gym though! hehehe

Here I’m using my fabulous Ashford Rigid Heddle 48” / 120cm loom.

You can save this for future reference; and to see how important it is for me to be resourceful so that I can satisfy my inner need to weave soulful blankets; come along and follow me.

  • If this doesn’t look like you running to your studio to weave, perhaps you need some creative inspiration?

Come follow along and see if you can find yourself some tips and creative mojo to get you running to your loom like I do!
  • Your weaving isn’t valued because it looks like it was made by a machine.
It is valued because it didn’t!
Come along for tips, ideas and inspiration; as we create what is valued - together.
  • Just realised that perfection in your weaving isn’t the goal? Perfection isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. Machines can do that. Soul-less. What you create with your own hands is unique and unreplicable.
Come join me as we weave our own life stories through our own hands.
  • Want perfection? Use a machine. Your hands are the whole point. Your hands leave traces that your pieces are made by a human. Your own lived experience. Soul-filled!
