This drive from Mt Augustus to Paraburdoo was only 350kms – took 2 full days and challenging driving some times, but was diverse and absolutely fascinating geologically. Max and I stopped often to scramble over hills and along the roadside examining all the different kinds of rocks and geological formations. The river crossings were filled with the sounds of birdlife ricocheting off the banks. It would have been lovely to spend more time in the craggy, burnt orange and dusty hills, but we have to get to Karijini by Friday… so we had to take in as much as we could by looking and getting out and feeling the hot dry wind on our skin…hearing the birds and insects … and smelling the dust and wildflower blossom.

Julie, This road is one of my favourite roads in WA, The scenery is spectacular. One day you need to make time to do it in the wet season when all the creeks are flowing. It is also spectacular in wild flower season.

Hi Tania, yes it was the most wonderful drive. Max and I said to each other we must come back and do that drive again in another season, so we will take your advice!
