STEP 4
Ok…you have;
Step 1 – Created your list. Then Step 2 – worked out your Creative or Personal Mission. Then Step 3 – determined your Goals. Now is the fun bit!!
Have a look at your list and for every item, work out whether if completing that thing on your list actually serves any of your goals. If the thing on your list doesn’t serve any of your goals… reassess whether you need to adjust your goals in case you missed something…. or cross the thing off your list! Ask yourself why you are doing it or want to do it – if it doesn’t serve you!
Now you have sorted through your list and determined that everything on it will actually help you achieve your goals… organise them either with a coloured marker or in your doc. programme into things which need to be done in the short or long term… short being days/weeks… and long usually months/years.
Then prioritise them. Put them in order from the ones you can actually start in the next few hours!!!! Each morning take a few minutes to look at your short term list and work out which ones are a priority, and start them and schedule when you are going to do them. Have a mixture of things which can be completed quickly and ones which you can set in motion but take a little longer to complete.
Prioritise your long term items as well….Start the bigger and longer term projects wholeheartedly – but see if you can break down those things on your list into smaller more achievable elements – so you don’t keep putting it off because it seems daunting. For example – if you have on your list ….. “get my book going”… break that down to – select images for book; select poems for book; research Blurb; research publishers; research paper types; research font types…etc. Each of those items is able to be achieved in smaller batches of time and progress can be clearly seen to be made, rather than being daunted by not knowing where to start and having an overwhelming task ahead of you.
Don’t also forget the possibility that you can delegate. You don’t always have to physically do everything on your list yourself. You are the manager of the list – nowhere is there a code which says that you have to do everything yourself!
Be disciplined and focussed, but also be flexible. If you need a bit of a boost so that you feel like you need to achieve something … go to your list and pick 3 or 4 things which can be done fairly effortlessly and in a short time frame. Get the niggly little things out of the way. And the CROSS THEM OFF!!!
So…. now you have some strategies to complete things on your list. Everything you do needs to serve you….. serving meeting your goals and ultimately your Mission; either Creatively if that is your focus for this exercise…or if you have taken a broader view.. then your Life’s Mission.
As you cross the things of your list…..as you complete things… you now have space to open up to the new!!! Keep revising your Goals, because as you achieve the things on your list – you will all of a sudden realise that you will be achieving some of your Goals also. This opens the way for you to create and develop new Goals… and wonderful experiences that you never thought you had the space for in your life before.
Give it try. Give these 4 steps a go…. it WILL make a big difference in your life!
