“The true tragedy in life is not death but that which dies inside of us while we are still living.” Norman Cousins.
What thoughts came to you immediately when you read this quote. What response did you have straight away when you read the above words? What did you think may have died within you?
I think this is a wonderful quote. After reading this the first thing which came to me were questions. I asked myself;
- What has died within me?
- Why has that happened?
- What is inside me which I have not
expressed?
- What yearning do I have to do things… or share things that I have not done?
- Why have I not done or shared or followed what I yearned for?
- What have I not said which I wished I had?
- What have I felt passionate about that I did not follow-up on?
- What have I not shared about myself which I wanted to?
- Is there anything I wanted to do, say or experience which I felt afraid to?
- What can I do so that no more dies within me?
I can ask myself these questions in relation to my creative life as well as my life in general. What has died within me in relation to my photography …. or my writing… or in my life?
Opening myself to listening to the answers to my questions helps me to not only understand myself and my needs; but also provides me with some insight into my choices so that no more of me dies whilst I am still living…and so that I can live and express honestly, authentically and openly who I am; with boldness and acceptance; and without fear.
