Going home..

Well.. we are well and truly in England now… and have been fortunate to have a couple of beautiful days before the cold, wet and windy weather set in today. I managed to score a sore throat on the flight from Singapore to London and have been pretty much confined to my PJ’s as I haven’t been that well.. but we have managed a couple of drives into the countryside and around toward Cardiff…but I’ve been glad to get back to our friends home and snuggle in to rest and get better. I decided to leave all the crowded touristy things which I have been told are well worth it – but I’ll do them in a couple of weeks. My priority is to get well… so that I can enjoy our vintage car journeys – the first being through Scotland starting next Thursday (although we leave in the 1929 Invicta on Sunday).. and then Paris to Madrid on the 22nd June.

Yesterday driving through Oxford I was really captivated by everyone’s journey home. I was observing the route that everyone was taking late in the afternoon… whether in their car, on their bike or by foot. This scene caught my eye out of the car window and I envisioned someone going home, walking up these beautiful stairs which created such a lovely dynamic shape in my mind.

This was taken from my passenger seat through the car window using my trusty Canon G10 point and shoot – since I decided to leave my big gear at home. Even though it is only a point and shoot camera, I still feel the same visceral excitement and pleasure when I observe something and bring my camera to my eye.

It’s just something inside me which is probably why I love photography so much.

Do you have the same feelings or response to what you see and take a photograph of regardless of the camera you are using, or do you get more excited the more capable the camera is?? I would love to hear your own personal experience on this one.

About the Author: Julie
I am a Journeywoman. I live my life as an explorer. An adventurer. An Observer. An Artist. There is no differentiation between how I live my life and the art that is an expression of it. It is through my experience adventuring the unknown, that I learn more about myself. My aim through this connection is to live where my expression is fully in alignment with the essence of who I am. “In the field of Fine-Art Photography, Julie stands apart from others with the way she sees the world and expresses her connection within it. Julie Stephenson’s photographs are sublime. Her work is an expression of her deep connection; and a gift to the world.”

  • Ever been stuck knowing where to start a project. ‘What I saw’ is often a good place to start.

Your journeys can be wonderful source material for your projects. Save this as a reminder for your own weaving and if you’re just visiting my space here, come follow along to see what I weave from my journeys.

This blanket I’ve woven was inspired by a road trip driving our 100 year old vintage Vauxhall from Bangkok to London. We broke down in Kyrgyzstan after driving rough Tibet for a month; but that’s another story!
  • I’m REAL. No AI scripted slop. Just ALL me. Want to enjoy your weaving more? Welcome to my world where I share tips and ideas freely. I may even make you laugh along the way. Get comfy, follow along and stay a while.

I’m a weaver. Artist. Traveller. Photographer. Bad*ss sassy weaver actually! Simple tools. Ashford rigid heddle. Gorgeous handwoven blankets, and 3 ground rules for my content! I’m just being totally REAL! Welcome along!
  • I’ve just posted two b-roll clips; now for washing the floors and cleaning …. (Ooops maybeee that weaving?)
