We decided to traverse the Simpson Desert from west to east, so decided to go north from Birdsville to Bedourie, Boulia, then Alice Springs. The closer we drove to Alice Springs, the greener everything became again.
The Plenty highway through the Northern Territory was in pretty good condition considering the amount of rain that has fallen in that area. The road was rough, but not as corrugated as one would expect. There was evidence of rutting from being driven on whilst still muddy, but we didn’t worry because seeing the country in such beautiful condition distracted our thoughts from the road conditions.
