Connection

Pulsing heartbeats on pressing chests,

  experience – shared in communion.

The journey to Self,

exploration through this reality of human flesh.

The bee intuitively nestles intimately

deep within the essence of the flower.

Interaction – the core of human experience-

moments of connection

when laughter resonates along the pathway to the heart,

vulnerability is nurtured in the vortex of the chasm

through which the world is observed,

the touch of skin comforts deep within,

tears are dispersed by another’s cheek.

Intentions filed in the mind, wither.

An intricate dance of steps and directions

is self-indulgent without legs laden

with the pollen of interaction.

Hovering

            suspended

          distance

from what is exposed and offered

results in a barren existence,

the loss of illuminating potential

– a field of unfertilised ovum.

  by Julie Stephenson

This is a poem I wrote some time ago which I would like to share, and was inspired by what I saw in nature – a bee in a field of flowers. It is about the importance of meaningful interaction and connection in our lives, and making the effort and having the courage to interact and communicate deeply with another – more than texting or the occasional email and thinking that adequately serves us. Without deep, open communication and interaction, there is such a loss of potential for growth, learning and life.

There are times when self-reflection is imperative and important, but it is only when one opens one’s heart and shares oneself with another that the fruits of this reflection can be more clearly seen and we truly experience life.

Nothing quite beats looking into someone’s eyes and sharing energy and being open-hearted together and exposing exactly who we are. It is far less easy to hide when someone is looking into your eyes. There is so much richness and so much can be learned and felt when there is connection together in physical proximity to another. If that is not possible using technology is the next best option – Skype, telephone and email.

So…. if you have been thinking about ‘catching up’ with someone…. or calling them…. or writing – give consideration today to not putting it off any longer, and make a commitment to yourself to do so with an open heart and dare to reveal who you are, and not just the surface narrative of events in your life. Reveal who you really are – boots, prickles and all; be honest; be truly open – because that is what the richness of life is truly about.

About the Author: Julie
I am a Journeywoman. I live my life as an explorer. An adventurer. An Observer. An Artist. There is no differentiation between how I live my life and the art that is an expression of it. It is through my experience adventuring the unknown, that I learn more about myself. My aim through this connection is to live where my expression is fully in alignment with the essence of who I am. “In the field of Fine-Art Photography, Julie stands apart from others with the way she sees the world and expresses her connection within it. Julie Stephenson’s photographs are sublime. Her work is an expression of her deep connection; and a gift to the world.”
