I had fun taking a few quick snaps driving tonight. The rain has abated for about half an hour so far!
If I could sit across from my 30-year-old self for five minutes, this is what I’d tell her:
1️⃣ You have WAY LESS time than you think.
Curve balls can come and skittle you. Embrace and have gratitude for each and every day.
2️⃣ Stop making decisions based on who might be disappointed.
You will always disappoint some others. Just try not to disappoint yourself. Your life gets really small when everyone else’s comfort becomes more important than your own truth.
Some people won’t understand your choices.
Make them anyway.
3️⃣ Your body will eventually make you slow down if you refuse to.
You think today is hard to move… when you’re nudging 70… don’t wait until tomorrow to try and move it more! Rest isn’t laziness.
And constantly feeling exhausted isn’t just the price you have to pay for being successful.
Stress causes illness.
4️⃣ Confidence comes AFTER you do the scary thing.
Stop waiting to feel ready. Just get on with it!
Learn to say NO… and YES!
5️⃣ Wanting more doesn’t make you ungrateful.
You can love your family.
Be grateful for your career.
Appreciate everything you’ve built.
And still think:
I want something different.
Both can be true.
6️⃣ Your job is something you do. It’s not who you are.
I never excelled at anything. I thought I was going to have a career. It didnt happen. My choices led me elsewhere.
Your title, income, productivity, and accomplishments are not your worth.
There’s an entire woman underneath all of those things.
Don’t lose her. Hold her close.
7️⃣ Stop saving your dream life for “someday.”
Do the thing. Wear the bling! Go on the trip. Drink the coffee while it’s hot.
And start becoming the woman you keep imagining, or just BE the woman WITHOUT imagining!
Because your life isn’t waiting for you in the future.
It’s happening right now.
My life has unfolded more than I ever could have imagined, but there have been costs which could have been avoided.
At 64, I don’t wish I’d worked harder.
I wish I’d trusted myself sooner.
Protected my peace sooner.
Cared for myself sooner.
Respected myself sooner.
So…they are the things I would tell my younge
