artistic influences – Fred Williams

Fred Williams is one of Australia’s most important artists. I love his work !!! Max and I came across the retrospective exhibition “Infinite Horizons” at the National Gallery in Canberra last year… and I was so moved by this amazing exhibition, I flew down to Canberra a month later to see the exhibition again. Google Fred Williams to see more of his work.

His work inspires me.

About the Author: Julie
I am a Journeywoman. I live my life as an explorer. An adventurer. An Observer. An Artist. There is no differentiation between how I live my life and the art that is an expression of it. It is through my experience adventuring the unknown, that I learn more about myself. My aim through this connection is to live where my expression is fully in alignment with the essence of who I am. “In the field of Fine-Art Photography, Julie stands apart from others with the way she sees the world and expresses her connection within it. Julie Stephenson’s photographs are sublime. Her work is an expression of her deep connection; and a gift to the world.”

I agree completely, Fred Williams’ exhibition at the NGA was the first retrospective I had ever seen, was not really interested in artists until then to be honest…his work is extraordinary and he got the australian landscape better than anyone I have ever seen, I have travelled thru most of it and he nails it, I am so glad his art is now being seen again by a new generation, many thanks for showing one of his masterpieces 🙂

Hi Kim,Yes his work is extraordinary. I am hoping (and plans are in the early stage) – to extensively photograph the area which he painted. I’m keen to see how I portray the area. His work has truly inspired me and made a difference in my life also.

  • Journeys can be wonderful source material for your projects. Save this as a reminder, and come follow along to see what I weave from my journeys.

Here is a blanket I’ve woven inspired by a road trip driving our 100 year old vintage car from Bangkok to London. We broke down in Kyrgyzstan after driving rough Tibet for a month; but that’s another story!
  • Ever had a tough week and you just know yarn that a 6-pack of yarn will be the perfect spirit lifter? Follow along to see what I make with this gorgeous @myak_fibers

I just adore it!
  • Do you want to NOT go out and just stay home and do the things you want to do; like spinning, weaving, knitting, crafting; but feel like you should be getting dressed out of your pj’s, and going out to at least have a coffee???

You could role play like I did. Follow to see my next ‘outing’.

One can never be overdressed wherever you are! Pop on your bling and do your thing!

So it’s all sorted then?!!
  • Four things I learned from one month not buying yarn. If you’re a weaver, knitter or crocheter, I’ve done all the hard work for you!

Save this for your own reference, and follow to see if I chat to the postman about yarn again!

What I learned-
1. I miss chatting to our postman about yarn.

2. I just don’t have the right pink.

3. No one; yes no one at all gave me a gold crown. Not even a gold star!

4. I was so sad I took up a hobby. Sewing. I bought heaps of fabric!

Because I’ve realised I don’t even like sewing, it was all pointless.

I’m back to weaving now. Wonder if I’ll be chatting to the postman again soon??
  • Want to enjoy your weaving more? I share tips and ideas freely. I may even make you laugh along the way. Get comfy, follow along and stay a while.

I’m a weaver. Artist. Traveller. Photographer. Bad*ss sassy weaver actually! Simple tools. Ashford rigid heddle. Gorgeous handwoven blankets, and 3 ground rules for my content! Basically, I’m just being totally REAL! Welcome along!
  • Tired of AI slop? Come follow along here if you want REAL!! They say wearing bikinis gets more followers, and AI can’t do that! I can though!

I’m totally real; and at times slightly unhinged. Committed, sometimes ridiculous. If you want weaving tips and to get some weaving mojo, here is your space! I may even make you laugh.
  • Thinking of weaving? A rigid heddle loom is a great start. I use a really big one with a very big shuttle. It’s a 48” @ashford_wheels_looms Rigid heddle loom.

I like to walk rather than sit to weave so this is the perfect size for me, so I can weave my blankets.

Come follow along to see what I weave using this very big shuttle. I may even make you laugh along the way.

2. Just don’t have the right yellow.
3. Nobody, yes nobody gave me a gold crown. Not even a gold star!

Tired of AI slop? Come follow along here if you want REAL!! They say wearing bikinis gets more followers, and AI can’t do that! I can though!

I’m totally real; and at times slightly unhinged. Committed, sometimes ridiculous. If you want weaving tips and to get some weaving mojo, here is your space! I may even make you laugh.

Thinking of weaving? A rigid heddle loom is a great start. I use a really big one with a very big shuttle. It’s a 48” @ashford_wheels_looms Rigid heddle loom. I like to walk rather than sit to weave so this is the perfect size for me, so I can weave my blankets. Come follow along to see what I weave using this very big shuttle. I may even make you laugh along the way.

Four things I learned from one month not buying yarn for my weaving. Save this for your own reference!

1. Miss chatting to our postman about yarn.
2. Just don’t have the right yellow.
3. Nobody, yes nobody gave me a gold crown. Not even a gold star!
4. I was so sad I took up a hobby. Sewing. I’ve bought heaps of fabric!

So, because I’m not sure I even like sewing now, it was all pointless.

Back to weaving now. So looking forward to chatting to the postman again! 🤣

Come follow along to see what I weave with my next parcel!
