#metoo Supporting women who like myself have been sexually violated.

#MeToo

I am writing this in support of all those who have been sexually harassed, abused or violated.

I have been sexually abused not by random strangers; not by family members – but by some men with whom I have trusted in both a professional capacity, or of friendship – who have taken advantage of, and misused my openness and lovingness as an opportunity and vehicle to meet their own personal and sexual needs.

This predatory behavior was masterful in its’ execution; manipulating and blind-sighting me because of my naivety and open-heartedness.

For me these have been abhorrent, deceptive and cowardly betrayals of professional conduct, friendship and trust; that pass through my thoughts as I navigate a path to not allow the perpetrators of this sexual abuse to destroy my kind, joyful and loving Spirit.

Some may ask “Why didn’t/don’t you do anything or say anything against those men?”. Only those who have been the recipient of such deceptive sexual abuse will be able to understand and answer; as I understand and see thousands of women on facebook write ‘#MeToo’ who have never spoken nor revealed before of their sexual abuse.

Perpetrators are often narcissists; and often twist the truth as a part of their manipulation – undermining the victim’s credibility; and in my instance these men cast blame upon anything and anyone other than themselves; and presented to me that it was ‘my fault for..’ their actions and behaviour.

For me I have chosen to ‘move on’ rather than to speak out; as a path for self-preservation. I have however learned much about making wiser and more empowered choices in relation to male bodywork practitioners, and friendships.

Perhaps me speaking up now may bring more awareness to those who have more courage than I; to speak out earlier against those who are manipulative, deceptive and abusive in their endeavour to have their own personal and sexual needs met.

“If all the people who have been sexually abused, harassed or assaulted wrote “Me too” as a status update, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem.” #metoo copy/paste

About the Author: Julie
I am a Journeywoman. I live my life as an explorer. An adventurer. An Observer. An Artist. There is no differentiation between how I live my life and the art that is an expression of it. It is through my experience adventuring the unknown, that I learn more about myself. My aim through this connection is to live where my expression is fully in alignment with the essence of who I am. “In the field of Fine-Art Photography, Julie stands apart from others with the way she sees the world and expresses her connection within it. Julie Stephenson’s photographs are sublime. Her work is an expression of her deep connection; and a gift to the world.”

𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭 | 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 Luxury Handwoven Blankets 🌏Stories from life & global adventures 🧩Woven into unique collector pieces Explore ⬇️
  • How my brain sounds as I try to juggle… and it doesn’t end after your children leave home! Life goes on and now they are 40years old.. this is still how my brain sounds as I try to juggle being a weaver trying to spend time in my studio weaving .. with everything else! …
  • What was I to do? A weaving life?! Resistance is futile!
  • I’m curious. You too??
  • So many of you have shared that your pieces seem boring after you’ve spent hours with your heart and soul weaving them.

I have some ideas. Tip ONE to stop you from repeating making projects you don’t really love.

Try this -
Recall a place you’ve been that’s moved you. Remember the colours. Start there!

Keep watching and spread the world to come to my space to learn how to look at your weaving in a whole new way!
  • Underwhelmed with your finished piece that has taken you sooooo long to weave?

You’ve grasped basic weaving techniques, and you’re stuck making the same old things - without the ‘feels’!

Come along and glean some insights into making your time weaving worthwhile; by weaving pieces that shift from being just ‘nice’ fabric; to something very special.
  • Theres a saying about looking for a needle… but this time in the loom box! {tip} I suspect it won’t be found there! Hehe

A needle however is a very necessary accompaniment to a loom.

Who would have thought there was so much sewing in weaving? Hemstitching is a thing!! AND absolutely imperative!
Now you know! Let others know as well!
  • Tips and techniques are the starting point to make sound handwoven pieces, but after that- it’s up to you to spend all those hours weaving something that just doesn’t fill in the time. You will never truly be happy with that.

Come follow along to glean some insights into making pieces that are meaningful to you and bring a deeper sense of accomplishment alongside pieces that you actually love.
  • It’s warping day. On a previous reel I explained what a warp was. Today in my studio I need to tension warp threads to wind the warp onto the rear beam.

I can’t be at both ends at the same time, so being a rather practical person, I came up with a plan! Perfect solution! Doesn’t save me going to the gym though! hehehe

Here I’m using my fabulous Ashford Rigid Heddle 48” / 120cm loom.

You can save this for future reference; and to see how important it is for me to be resourceful so that I can satisfy my inner need to weave soulful blankets; come along and follow me.

#handweaving #madebyhand #warping
  • If this doesn’t look like you running to your studio to weave, perhaps you need some creative inspiration?

Come follow along and see if you can find yourself some tips and creative mojo to get you running to your loom like I do!
