Nullarbor is Latin for “no trees”… which is contrary to what is actually the case across this plain. Only on the Eastern side of the Nullarbor is there some distance of flat treeless plain…otherwise the flat, sometimes undulating limestone land which is filled with underground caves, is covered with freshly generating trees which also reveal evidence of dead limbs whose moisture was sucked from them during the drought.

Dear Julie, Thank you for stirring my memory, love your photos, at first when I looked I thought there were gallahs in the tree, then realised it was the “Bra Tree”, the trees that have the spreading canopy on a tall willowy trunk Frank & I used to call them “Prohart” trees, he always showed them in his paintings. Enjoying the journey with you, travel safely. Love & hugs Lee

Hahaha…yes.. the “Bra tree” We also saw “Cup tree”..and “shoe and thong tree”. The trees our here are amazing – especially the ones with the tall spreading canopy. Max said they reminded him of “Giraffe trees” in Africa. Love and hugs Julie

Last year when Warren and I were crossing the Nullarbor we passed a tree that was covered in an assortment of beautiful bras. The sign read of support for a dear woman who was battling breast cancer. Any woman was invited to add their bra to the collection and reflect on loved ones affected by this illness. So I did. Standing under the shade of the tree with only shorts and sandles on I prayed. That prayer was for your sister. Xx
