please stand clear of the closing doors

On November 22nd I heard the sentence through the phone that every parent dreads to hear. "Are you James' mum?...He has been in an accident. You need to come quickly..." Our son, 19 was involved in a serious accident. We were on the scene in 6 minutes and held him until the ambulance and helicopter arrived and supported him while his condition was stabilised enough for him to be airlifted to hospital. Every minute waiting in the family room of Intensive Care was a torment that no human should endure, yet every moment waiting, ironically meant there was a greater chance that he had survived.

colour mixing fun

I have just had the best fun experimenting with getting some ‘Kimberley rust/browns/reds’ and have found that by using just 3 colours I can get so many of these beautiful shades. This is just a small sample of the selection of the possibilities available when I mixed Phlalo Blue(red), Cadmium Red Deep Hue and Cadmium Orange Hue. This is so exciting!

play

I was asked at an artist talk which I presented recently how I came up with all my ideas. I think what is really important for me is play. There are many different aspects of play in my life. Laughing and having fun with my husband, boys and friends, and then there is playing through exploration of subject matter, location, equipment and settings. I’m always exploring a new way to look and think about things, and I continue to do this through the lens by experimentation. A lot of the time the images are duds, but every now and then a gem appears, and something in my belly knows I have touched on something which deserves further exploration.
