Today Max and I went out in our RIB… rigid inflatable boat- for a day together on Moreton Bay. The alarm went off at ‘dark o’clock’… and we were on the water close to sunrise. In the Bribie passage there were literally millions and millions of these blue jellyfish.
We were not only fascinated by the sheer numbers and beauty of these amazing creatures….. but both recalled the day when shortly after we met each other roughly 30 years ago whilst sailing Max’s 16’ Hobie-Cat – whilst pushing the limits of the boat’s speed, a wind gust tipped us up and over … plunging us both into a patch of jellyfish just like the ones we saw today.
Not fun…. as I recall… and yes they DID sting!!!
