Happy Days! Knitting … @Skeinydipping!

Happy Days! … Well… I turned shit into fertiliser and what a wonderful world I have re-entered.

 

Knitting. Yes knitting! Have a peek at my my new Instagram account @skeinydipping.

..and my new Skeinydipping Website

I learned to knit as a child and bred angoras when I was first married over thirty years ago; and smile quietly when I see sheep in the paddocks – wherever we go, all across the world.

 

I love wool. I love the hair from goats and alpacas. I love working with the softness in my hands. I love the earthy raw smell of unscoured fleece. I love the natural colours using plant dyes. I love the beauty in speckled hand painted yarns. I love the texture of stitches. I love the warmth of garments made with love and time.

 

I feel such a sense of comfort and joy when I knit.

 

I also love the rhythmic nature of spinning as the fibre slips gently through my hands.

 

The colours of nature reveal themselves miraculously as my pot of petals or plants surrenders and seeps their essence into the wet hot fibre.

 

Knitting pretty much was my saviour last year and I havent stopped. Always – “Just one more row! I laugh. My spinning wheel now takes pride of place in my room and I often have skeins of beautiful yarn at the end of my bed as I look at the colours in the morning as the sun rises.

 

I’ve been knitting a sweater for myself for a trip to the Arctic later in the year. I’ve also been knitting hats for our boys and their friends… and also jumpers and cardigans for the Syrian children in the refugee camps.

 

I’ve dived into the vortex of a crazy and vibrant knitting community. It’s so much fun. People throughout the world creating and sharing an ancient skill and amplifying so much joy.

 

I am excited to be starting a new instagram account @skeinydipping which will be online soon – so stay tuned! hehe.  It will be the sharing of my crazy adventurous nature, and love of experiencing working with wool.

 

Knitting brings me so much pleasure. Time to feel and create. Time to let my hands be soft and know when they move they are doing so much good.

 

Creative. Comforting.  … I am content.

  • If I could sit across from my 30-year-old self for five minutes, this is what I’d tell her: 1️⃣ You have WAY LESS time than you think. Curve balls can come and skittle you. Embrace and have gratitude for each and every day. 2️⃣ Stop making decisions based on who might be disappointed. You will always disappoint some others. Just try not to disappoint yourself. Your life gets really small when everyone else’s comfort becomes more important than your own truth. Some people won’t understand your choices. Make them anyway. 3️⃣ Your body will eventually make you slow down if you refuse to. You think today is hard to move… when you’re nudging 70… don’t wait until tomorrow to try and move it more! Rest isn’t laziness. And constantly feeling exhausted isn’t just the price you have to pay for being successful. Stress causes illness. 4️⃣ Confidence comes AFTER you do the scary thing. Stop waiting to feel ready. Just get on with it!  Learn to say NO… and YES! 5️⃣ Wanting more doesn’t make you ungrateful. You can love your family.
Be grateful for your career.
Appreciate everything you’ve built. And still think: I want something different. Both can be true. 6️⃣ Your job is something you do. It’s not who you are. I never excelled at anything. I thought I was going to have a career. It didnt happen. My choices led me elsewhere. Your title, income, productivity, and accomplishments are not your worth. There’s an entire woman underneath all of those things. Don’t lose her. Hold her close. 7️⃣ Stop saving your dream life for “someday.” Do the thing. Wear the bling! Go on the trip. Drink the coffee while it’s hot. And start becoming the woman you keep imagining, or just BE the woman WITHOUT imagining! Because your life isn’t waiting for you in the future. It’s happening right now. My life has unfolded more than I ever could have imagined, but there have been costs which could have been avoided.  At 64, I don’t wish I’d worked harder. I wish I’d trusted myself sooner. Protected my peace sooner. Cared for myself sooner.  Respected myself sooner.  So…they are the things I would tell my younge
