It has been some time since I’ve posted an update. I have returned from my incredible adventures and experiences in South America with new enthusiasm for many projects which I’m excited about… and now preparing for our next Adventure in Penny… from Peking to Paris. Click to see Enduro Rally Website.
I’m following up on Seth Resnick’s advice to look for gallery representation at Art Basel in Miami for my Antarctica and Greenland installation… and also looking for avenues to exhibit my body of work also at Art Basel in Hong Kong. I did a very crazy thing earlier last week… and encountered a minor hiccup.
I was excited to see that Art Basel was being held in Hong Kong over Easter. I looked for Frequent Flyer seats… and worked out that I could get home on Sunday morning but not for another week after that; so selected that flight option – and I decided to go to Hong Kong earlier to look at the fringe programme venues, and found a flight leaving on Tuesday morning. I clicked all the flights I wanted.. entered all my information… and pressed OK.. DONE… Qantas conformation email into Inbox… and then I thought NOOOOOOO… I don’t have a passport !!! It is away in Canberra at the Mongolian Embassy getting my Visa for our Peking to Paris journey in June. First world problem. Can’t go overseas because my passport is in another embassy getting a Visa to go overseas! OOPS!
…So… cancelled flights. 5000 penalty points. Oh well.
Easter break was my opportunity instead to work with Max on Penny. We needed to check the keyway on the rear axle which we did an ‘en-route’ fix in the hotel car park in Paro in Bhutan (Click to see Post). All good. Thanks to everyone’s expertise the fix was perfect… now reassembled.. and in perfect working order.
Only minor repairs this time. Max and I have added an extra horn – so that I can be on ‘horn duty’ .. and for those who have driven in parts of India or Myanmar will understand why! We have replaced the windscreen. Re-packed the left rear brake. Did some welding of the chassis. Checked the gearbox…. and she is pretty much ready now to be packed in four weeks for her trip north across the edge of the Pacific Ocean into the South China Sea to Beijing…to commence the roughly 13,600km journey to Paris in June and July!
For those who have been enquiring about what my year ahead looks like after I have completed my personal challenge to climb Osorno Volcano and being to Antarctica.. it is looking very full!!!
I have some wonderful opportunities to perhaps do some work in South America or Tonga in the future on Environmental Education.. and have started learning Spanish again. Mauricio on my online audio course will have to do for now! 🙂 I have my printer away being serviced ready to print again. Yeh!! I am clearing my studio to start afresh. I have my samples of my Antarctica book “The Shape of Cold” in the pipeline to be printed. I’m diving into my Antarctica images and excited about developing my body of work into an installation exhibition for 2017. I’m also looking forward to this incredible journey ahead of me from Peking to Paris commencing in June… then to Bhutan with my beautiful girlfriend in December. I’m enjoying my commitment to running, swimming and the gym… yet my orchard has been a little neglected and calling for some nurturing over the coming weeks.
So… all up.. I have so many new opportunities opening for me …. My life is good. 🙂
