Mountains and moisture….. Iceland

Mountains and moisture!!! The landscape in Iceland is spectacular! There is always a geological feature in view..... and we have found there is also a lot of moisture... whether it be in the form of clouds; mist; ocean or moisture running out from the ground in either raging waterfalls or trickling streams. Iceland has on average a 79% chance of precipitation on any given day... so that means a lot of cloudy misty and showery days! We have experienced about the average which has provided an opportunity for me to experience the landscape in a more mysterious way than if the geological features were exposed in full sunlight. Abseiling…. trusting in myself

Antarctica New Perspectives : Even in the Darkness

Even in the darkness and the varying shades of the grey of uncertainty elements can emanate light and have an inner glow which is eternal with the strength of presence and resilience. Antarctica has provided me with the palette of my own experience to listen to the wisdom which emanates from something which is beyond me. Revisiting these images has enabled me to recall some of those insights again for myself. Looking at the relationships between elements can for me bring dynamism to a medium which is in literally 2 dimensions.
In your own photography, why not have a play with placing images together and see what narrative/emotion/movement/feeling develops within you, as a whole new perspective is created as a result of juxtaposing two or more ways of seeing.

Have you ever seen something and then upon further inquiry be led to further inquiry….which has led you to question your perception of reality even more??? Antarctica…. new perspectives

Have you ever had something revealed to you and it challenge your perception of the way you think it is?? I have been re-visiting my archives; and in my Antarctica photos there are images which challenge my memory of what I think Antartica is like… or “should” be like. When one thinks of Antarctica – ice; cold; blue; white; penguins; isolation; space; are just some of the words which may come to mind. As I have been browsing through my images I am seeing differently than how I have seen before. Perhaps ‘time’ is taking a role in this – as it has been 14 months since experiencing myself in Antarctica. Perhaps time has given me the space to see things differently…and present a new reality which I had not envisaged before. My perception is being challenged by a new way of seeing…. and what I am seeing in front of me is different that what I thought….remembered …and even imagined. Over the coming weeks… (perhaps even intermittently over the coming months 🙂 )… I would like to share with you some images which offer a new perspective of Antarctica.

Penny stripped down to bare bones….

Our beautiful 1923 Vauxhall is receiving some tender loving care in preparation for her next adventure. Gearbox removed. Diff removed...and we have just lifted out her powerhouse - her motor is going to be re-machined....New springs.... A few welds here and there... Some electrics fixed.... Lights repaired..... new gearbox.... alternator repaired... and a fe more things...but in 2 months time

How does one swim with whales in Tonga???

"In the water"... "Go" "Go".... gulps of salt water... veils of bubbles enveloping my foggy mask... searching in the endless stripes of blue for a feint hint of white or black....hearing clicks and squeaks of groaning whalesong (absolutely NOTHING like on those relaxation CD's!!!)..then like stealth submarines with effortless propulsion THEY appeared!!! Silent Flight …. More…. & Swimming with Whales in Tonga

After each series of encounters swimming with various whales, there was a point where I knew and felt content that it was time for us to move on and leave the whales to get on with doing their 'own thing'....or to feel the cooler air and the softer light on my back to return to a little cafe at the pier where the delight of roasted coconut and salty, hand-cut, hot chips accompanied reflections and words which best described the day for each of us.... but secretly did I want more?
